Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Save Downloads architecture, supported platforms, format handling, and local device security.
• General & Download Mechanics
Is Save Downloads completely free to use?
Yes, Save Downloads is 100% free with no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, and no paywalled download speed limits. The application is supported by community development and lightweight infrastructure.
Do I need to sign up or create an account?
No. Save Downloads operates with a 100% account-free architecture. There are no registration screens, no email collections, and no user profiles. Your downloads, searches, and settings reside strictly on your local Android device.
How does the parallel segmented downloader work?
Standard mobile downloads use a single TCP connection that can be throttled by mobile carriers or content delivery networks. Save Downloads splits the target file into parallel byte-range chunks (up to 8 streams on Wi-Fi, 4 on mobile data). Each stream downloads concurrently into exact byte offsets using RandomAccessFile, saturating your available bandwidth.
Can I pause and resume downloads if my connection drops?
Yes. Save Downloads automatically maintains a .segments offset state file alongside every active .part file. If your Wi-Fi disconnects or you manually pause a download, it resumes from the exact byte where it left off rather than starting over.
• Supported Platforms & DASH Remuxing
Which platforms and services are supported?
Save Downloads supports major video and audio sharing platforms, including YouTube, YouTube Shorts, Vimeo, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter/X, and 1000+ standard web video URLs through native API extractors and yt-dlp fallback wrappers.
Why do 1080p and 4K YouTube videos require remuxing?
YouTube serves all high-resolution streams above 720p using adaptive DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP), which completely separates the video track from the audio track on Google servers. Save Downloads downloads both high-definition tracks in parallel and uses a native FFmpeg 7.1.1 subprocess to merge them into a single playable MP4 container without re-encoding or quality loss.
How does the WhatsApp Status Saver work?
Android allows applications to access document trees with explicit user consent via the Storage Access Framework (SAF). Save Downloads connects directly to WhatsApp's hidden .Statuses folder, enabling you to preview and export temporary 24-hour status photos and videos to your permanent gallery before they expire.
• Privacy, Storage & AES-256 Vault
Where are my downloaded files and private vault media saved?
Standard downloads are saved to public Android media folders (Movies/SaveDownloads and Music/SaveDownloads). When you move a file into the Private Vault, it is encrypted via streaming AES-256-GCM and stored in the app's private internal sandbox (filesDir/vault/) with a .nomedia marker. It is completely invisible to gallery apps, file managers, and third-party apps.
Does Save Downloads upload my browsing or download history to any server?
No. Zero media URLs, zero download file names, zero search queries, and zero media bytes are ever transmitted to any server. All link parsing, stream extraction, media downloading, and encryption execute 100% locally on your smartphone processor.
What data does Firebase Crashlytics collect?
If enabled in Settings, optional anonymous crash diagnostics are processed by Firebase Crashlytics to catch unexpected native crashes (e.g. CPU architecture incompatibilities or memory constraints). It collects zero personal information, zero URLs, and zero search terms. You can toggle it off at any time in the app Settings.
• Android Installation & Play Protect
Why does Android warn that this is an "Unknown app"?
Android displays the "Install unknown apps" permission prompt whenever you install an application outside the Google Play Store. Sideloading direct APKs gives you full control and privacy freedom without platform restrictions. You can safely grant permission in Android Settings.
Why does Google Play Protect display a warning?
Play Protect issues an automated cautionary prompt for unlisted standalone APKs that have not been submitted through Google Play Developer Console. Tap "More details" → "Install anyway" to proceed. You can verify our package SHA-256 checksum to ensure complete package integrity.
